I would be lying if I said I wasn’t having a moan throughout the game Saturday at our lack of attacking threat, but on my way home the frustration dispersed somewhat and a bit of rational thinking returned.

Pulis to be fair was missing some key attacking players. Both Chadli and Burke were side-lined with niggling injuries.

Even if they hadn’t started, they would have likely been introduced later on when the game was crying out for an attacking spark.

So as much as I can understand the frustrations come full time, I think Pulis was limited in terms of the options available to him on the day and that maybe some of the stick he received at full time was slightly unfair.

However, once Chadli and Burke are fit, Pulis really does need to start playing them regularly.

What was clearly evident Saturday was the lack of pace. With the way Pulis sets up, playing on the counter, its vital that you have players within that line-up who have the ability to take players on, stretch the opposition and really threaten their back line when coming forward.

The only player who had that in his locker was Matt Phillips but he was ‘doubled up on’ throughout, in turn completely nullifying our threat.

As I said I think Saturday's performance was more down to circumstance than set-up, but when Chadli and Burke are back, if Pulis continues with similar line-ups then the Albion faithful will be fully entitled to let their disapproving voices be heard as then, in my opinion, he isn’t maximising the players he has at his disposal.

Going into the Carabao Cup game against Manchester City on Wednesday evening, its fair to say that all of the pundits were writing us off before a ball had even been kicked.

Even a majority of our supporters believed it was a huge challenge to beat a team with such an embarrassment of riches.

So with us conceding after little more than two minutes it did nothing to distinguish any doubts of a routine victory for the away side.

However after a lacklustre first half in which City enjoyed all of the possession it was a different Albion that posed a threat in the second half.

The introduction of Phillips instilled much more attacking threat and we went toe to toe with Man City.

A goal from such an unlikely source in Claudio Yacob was not a surprise such was our improvement and we then preceded to have further chances until a sucker punch breakaway goal from Leroy Sane spelled the end of our hopes for a run in the competition.

Despite the defeat our entertaining and exciting football played in the second half was a huge positive for the games to come.
