The 70-year-old is expected to sign a two-year deal with Crystal Palace and will replace Frank de Boer, who has been sacked by the Eagles after just four league games in charge.

Hodgson, who replaced Roberto Di Matteo at The Hawthorns back in February 2011, took Albion to an 11th-placed finish in the Premier League. At the time, it was the club’s highest finish for 30 years.

The former Liverpool and Inter Milan manager then guided the Baggies to a 10th-placed finish a season after, before leaving in the summer of 2012 for the England job.

He led the national team to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012, but England were knocked out in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup.

He resigned last summer after England suffered a humiliating defeat to Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016.

De Boer was sacked by Palace after losing his first four league games in charge without managing to score a goal.
