Potential Jonny Evans replacement Mahmadou Sakho is undergoing a medical at Crystal Palace after the Eagles agreed a £26million fee with Liverpool.

Mamadou Sakho was linked with West Brom.

Tony Pulis is a huge fan of Sakho and had hoped to bring him in should Manchester City meet Albion’s £30m valuation for in-demand skipper Evans.

But Sakho has decided to return to Selhurst Park, where he spent half of last season on loan.

Evans is training with Northern Ireland in San Marino tonight after flying over with the squad today.

But boss Michael O’Neill said any transfer would be "pretty much a paper exercise" at this point, leaving the door open for Evans to exit.

That is looking increasingly unlikely though, because Albion want to sign a replacement if their skipper leaves for City, and now that Sakho has been taken off the table, there are few options left to them.

City have offered unwanted defender Eliaquim Mangala on loan, but it’s unlikely to go through.

Elsewhere, Nacer Chadli has not been named in the Belgian squad for tonight’s match with Gibraltar.

Rekeem Harper is expected to leave the Baggies on loan before the 11pm deadline, but Sam Field is due to stay.
