Tony Pulis welcomes proposed changes to transfer window

Tony Pulis will welcome the proposed decision to shut the transfer window before the season starts after labelling the current system ‘ridiculous’.

Premier League clubs are due to vote in favour of bringing the deadline for trading players forward at a shareholder’s meeting next month.

If passed, the new rule will mean top-tier clubs cannot do business with each other after the 2018/19 season starts, although they will be able to sell players to other European countries.

The move has come after several Premier League clubs were left frustrated on the opening weekend of this season by transfer sagas rumbling on in the background.

And Pulis, who has told Baggies fans all summer they need to be patient for arrivals, is a fan of the decision.

“The window should close before the season starts,” he said. “It's ridiculous that we're going into the season and we're still talking about having to sign players.

“That stops all this nonsense for four weeks which is an absolutely nightmare for everybody, especially clubs in our position that need to strengthen, but have to scrap for what’s left in the last week.”

Rising fees this summer have led to more complicated deals and congestion in a market often reliant on the domino effect.

It means some Premier League clubs, like Albion, have found it difficult to do business so far. Pulis reckons it’s a natural effect of the extra money in the game.

“Of course, and the more money that comes into football, it’ll keep going,” he said. “The money now that's being paid for players and the money players are receiving is extraordinary.”
