The 37-year-old defender was forced off during the second half of Friday night's game against Chelsea with a knock.

He has started every single Premier League game so far this season, but is now set to sit out against Manchester City.

Marc Wilson will take his place and slot in at right-back, in order for Craig Dawson to move inside and partner Jonny Evans in the middle.

However, McAuley is expected to be available for the last game of the season away at Swansea on Sunday.

Phillips has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and may not return to the pitch again this season.

Hal Robson-Kanu, who suffered a hamstring problem in the same training session as Phillips, is expected to be on the bench again after returning to the squad against Chelsea.

"Matty won't be fit," confirmed Pulis. "Gareth won't be fit. Hal will be a last minute one.

"It was a big game on Friday and we actually outrun Chelsea in a great distance.

"It's a tough game at Man City, we're playing the third-best team in the league coming off playing the best team in the league.

"The second game will be difficult, we know physically it's going to be tough and they are a very good side.

"I'm hoping we'll put a performance in and do what we've done all season, work as hard as we possibly can and hope something drops for us."

Although the Baggies put in a valiant effort on Friday night, they have now won just one of the last 10 games, and failed to score in eight of those fixtures.

They have been in eighth place throughout the whole of 2017, but are now only holding onto the spot by goal difference with Southampton and Bournemouth also on 45 points.

Pulis is concerned by the lack of goals and Albion's wayward finishing in the final third, but said the performances had not deserved a poor run.

"If we hadn't turned up at games, then yeah I could criticise the players or the way the club's run," he said. "But everyone's been playing at maximum, and I think Friday night showed that.

"We gave a really good performance, but we just fell short in final third. We didn't have that cutting edge when we needed it to get the goal to win the game and we had the chances before Chelsea scored.

"Salomon and Chadders had opportunities and we had other opportunities to play people in where we’ve made the wrong decision.

"So it’s just been that little bit in the final third which was very good in the middle part of the season and we’ve lost it at the end.

"There’s such fine lines between what you can achieve if you take that away."
