Snow problem for Walsall and Peterborough as players help clear pitch - PICTURES and VIDEO

There's often the odd stoppage in football, but rarely does it involve players doing a bit of manual labour on the sidelines.

That was just the case in Walsall's midweek clash against Peterborough last night, as play was suspended late in the second half so that the players could help ground staff clear the pitch.

Players had to contend with the conditions throughout the game, with our reporter Joe Masi detailing the state of the pitch following full-time.

Walsall lost the game 2-1 in League One, but the game was almost abandoned as snow covered the ABAX Stadium turf - resulting in players having to grab shovels and brooms to help make the pitch playable.

Referee Lee Swabey had to halt proceedings following the heavy snowfall, but following the clean-up the match was able to find a conclusion.

Numerous games across the country fell foul of the weather this week, with hopes that this weekend's fixture list won't fall to a similar fate as the bad weather looks set to continue.
