The Saddlers will play their Central League West Division fixtures at The Scholars' Ground, starting with the visit of Wrexham on August 21.

Club secretary Dan Mole said the deal with the Evo-Stik First Division South side would help ease the burden on the Banks's Stadium pitch, which has undergone extensive work this summer.

Mole said: "We are delighted to have come to this arrangement with a local non-league club that we have worked closely with over the years.

"The facilities and standard of the playing surface are very good and we look forward to playing our second-string fixtures there throughout the season ahead.

"At the same time, it will take the burden off our own pitch."

The state of the Banks's Stadium pitch was a particular bugbear with players during the second half of last season, particularly as boss Dean Smith likes his team to play passing football.

Groundsman Paul Mason and his team have spent the summer relaying the surface using 260 tonnes of fibre sand. All the Saddlers reserve games kick-off at 2pm.
