Former Albion and Walsall player Brian Richardson, son of Baggies legend WG Richardson, has died at the age of 72 following a long illness.

He passed away at Sandwell Hospital on Friday leaving three daughters, three granddaughters and six great grandchildren.

He joined Albion as a 15-year-old and turned professional in 1957, but left for Walsall after just a handful of youth and reserve team games for the Baggies.

His Saddlers career was interrupted by national service before he could make a first-team appearance, before later playing non-league football for Brierley Hill Alliance and Redditch.

WG Richardson scored 228 goals for Albion excluding wartime goals, putting him third on the club's all-time list, and hit both goals in their 2-1 FA Cup Final win over Birmingham in 1931.
