Wycombe 2 Stourbridge 1: Glassboys gave it everything, says FA Cup hero Tom Tonks

Skipper Tom Tonks believes Stourbridge delivered everything but the result after seeing their historic FA Cup run ended at Wycombe.

The Glassboys, playing in the third round for the first time in their 140-year history, were edged out 2-1 in a pulsating tie at Adams Park.

And proud Tonks believes he and his team-mates could have done nothing more in front of more than 2,000 travelling supporters.

"Obviously we are a little bit gutted," he said. "But the performance warrants a 10 out of 10 for everyone in terms of application and work-rate.

"We have now matched a Football League team twice in the FA Cup. I could not have asked for anything more than the result."

Stour, who dumped out League One Northampton Town in the previous round, looked destined to take the League Two Chairboys to at least a replay after Dan Scarr cancelled out Sam Wood's opener with 20 minutes remaining.

Adebayo Akinfenwa eventually won it for the hosts with a late header – but only after Tonks had come within inches of putting the Glassboys ahead with an effort which hit the underside of the bar.

"It was one of those cross-shots as I like to call it," said Tonks. "If that goes in, I'm not saying we would have won because there was still time left but it makes it interesting. But it didn't go in.

"Sometimes they have that little bit of quality."

"The big man (Akinfenwa) found space for one time in the match and that was enough."
