Stafford Rangers boss Neil Kitching nonplussed by ‘crazy’ red card

Stafford Ranger boss Neil Kitching has been left scratching his head at a ‘crazy’ red card that has left Robbie Thompson-Brown suspended.

Winger Thompson-Brown was sent off for two bookings in Boro’s eventful 2-2 draw with nine-man Whitby Town last weekend.

He is now suspended for this weekend’s trip to play-off hunting Farsley Celtic, but Kitching has been left nonplussed by the incident.

“I don’t think either booking was fair,” said Kitching. “He got the first yellow for kicking the ball away when he kicked it to our goalkeeper to take a free kick. That was crazy.

“The second yellow card was when a free kick was given our way for a foul on him. The lad that fouled him was given a second yellow and then Robbie was booked for simulation! I’m lost!

“My question is why have you sent their player off? That just about summed up the referee’s performance.”

Kitching will be boosted this weekend by defender Kieran Morris and forward Massiah McDonald, who both return from suspension.

He hopes striker Tyrell Waite (hamstring) and defender Mat Bailey (groin) will train this week, but doesn’t know yet if they’ll feature at Farsley. Kai Davis remains out with an ankle problem.

“We can’t afford to be losing any players to suspension,” said the Boros boss. “I need everybody back around me, especially influential players like Robbie.”
