Adam Marusiak is always game to help struggling local football clubs out – and has now put Oldbury United back on the map.

That came after he helped West Midlands Regional League Division Two outfit collect their first point since reforming in a 2-2 draw with Shropshire club AFC Bilbrook.
And boy did he do it in style. The 33-year-old, from Rowley Regis, has gone viral online after his 92nd-minute equaliser whistled into the roof of the net from 20 yards.
“I’ve scored before and briefly played as a striker,” revealed Marusiak, who figured for Oldbury in the Southern league Midland Division before they folded in 2009.
“I thought ‘I’m not going to go into the box because I’m no good at headers’. But I’m quite confident at striking the ball and it sat nicely to just give it a ping.
“It was my weaker foot! I’m left-footed but I just got my head over it.
“It’s been mental. The boys are loving it. It’s being shared everywhere and viewed 20 or 25,000 times.
“It’s one of those things that you think would never happen to you. But with the club reforming I want to try really hard for them to be successful.”
The goalkeeper’s availability for Saturday football has been limited in recent years but he is now in at United for good.
He only played the odd game here and there for Dudley Town and Pershore Town in recent seasons but United boss Chris Butts has persuaded him to stick around for the long-term.
“I’ve cleared my Saturday schedule!” laughed Marusiak. “I want to help as much as possible. We need to try and get as many players as we can. The staff are working really hard but want to secure more sponsorship.”
They remain bottom of the 12th tier of English football but are hoping Marusiak’s heroics will help bring a change in fortunes.
Thanks to Oldbury United and Chris Butts for the footage.
