Although Hednesford goalkeeper Lloyd Ransome was forced into an early save it was the Pitmen who went closest to breaking the deadlock when George Carline saw his header saved in the 15th minute.

Ransome was soon pressed into action again, though, as he twice denied the home side before Brady Hickey curled an effort just wide of the post a minute before the break for Barwell.

Hednesford almost took the lead in fortunate circumstances when Liam Kay headed the ball just past his own post and into the side netting 10 minutes into the second period.

The opening goal arrived with just eight minutes left on the clock as Nigel Julian slotted home from the edge of the area for the home side.

Barwell were able to double their lead in the 89th minute when Hickey curled a wonderful effort into the top corner of the net to secure a 2-0 win and make it a forgettable evening for the Pitmen.

Stafford Rangers' match at Buxton was postponed last night due to a waterlogged pitch.
