A prolific West Midlands striker turned on the style by scoring seven goals in a single game.

Kevin Nickle, who plays for Wolverhampton Casuals, netted the impressive haul during his side's 9-2 victory over Willenhall Town on Saturday.

The 29-year-old achieved the feat despite only having nine shots during the West Midlands Premier League clash.

It's one of the few times in the division's 127-year history that such a tally has been reached.

The record is currently held by a forward named as A. Hair in the history books.

He netted 10 goals when playing for Worcester City in 1931.

But Nickle admitted he is delighted with his haul.

"It was one of those games where everything seemed to go my way," he said. "In the first half I had four shots and scored all four.

"Because I'm quite quick, I usually get between two and six chances per game.

"But against Willenhall everything just seemed to go in.

"I had a penalty, a free-kick, three chips over the keeper and twice I went around the keeper.

"I've had games where I have scored a lot of goals before, but never seven."

As well as playing for Casuals, Nickle also turns out for AFC Bentley on a Sunday.

And the forward revealed he almost missed out on his seven-goal haul in order to save his legs.

"I play for AFC Bentley as well and after scoring four times I thought it might be a good idea to come off at half-time," he said.

"But my manager bet me that if I stayed on, I would score six goals.

"I'm glad I did because I've now got 21 goals for the season before we've got to Christmas.

"And we've got a crunch derby against Wolverhampton Sporting tonight, so hopefully there are more to come."

Having spent time with both Wolves and Charlton as a youngster, Nickle suffered a series of injuries with the striker having problems with his neck, back and ankle.

And he revealed he moved to Casuals to try and rediscover his love for the game.

"When I was growing up I played for the Wolves academy," Nickle continued.

"I was with them from the ages of 12 to 17 but then I moved across to Spain to work in a bar my dad owned.

"While I was out there I trained Charlton Athletic because they have a base out there, but I injured my ankle really badly when I was with them.

"It really slowed me down and I started falling out of love with the game.

"I came back from Spain and played for Alsager Town and Smethwick and helped both teams win promotion.

"But I kept getting injured and I was very close to packing it all in.

"I moved to Wolverhampton Casuals because I had a few mates there and it's been great.

"I'm now feeling fit, I've sorted my diet out and I am really enjoying my football."
