The Manchester United forward is one of up to three new players Emery wants through the door before Monday night’s transfer deadline and there is hope a loan deal could be completed within the next 24 hours.
Emery is also seeking reinforcements in defence and midfield, with Villa have allowed five senior players to leave including forward Jhon Duran, who joined Al-Nassr for an initial £64million.
He said: “We are working to try and get some players to join us on Sunday or Monday because we have to replace Diego Carlos, we have to replace Buendia, we have to replace Jhon Duran.
“It is not easy because we don't want to replace with players that will not help us like I want.
“We are being very demanding in it, we have to be intelligent and I am very proud of the players.”
Emery avoided answering questions about Rashford directly but a loan for the 27-year-old is close to being agreed.
Villa are expected to pay a significant portion of his £325,000-a-week salary, while they will also have an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
Emery, meanwhile, confirmed Ollie Watkins will be tested on Sunday after being forced off in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Wolves with muscle pain.
New signing Donyell Malen played the second half at centre-forward for Villa and saw a goal ruled out for VAR.
But the visitors otherwise struggled to create chances with goals from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matheus Cunha earning Wolves a deserved win.
Villa remain eighth in the Premier League table but missed the chance to close the gap on the top-five.
Emery said: “I changed him because he was feeling a little bit of pain in his muscle, hopefully we will tomorrow we will test him and check him and it is not going to be something important but I changed him for this injury.”Malen’s goal was ruled out when Morgan Rogers was deemed to be offside and interfering with play at a free-kick.
Emery continued: “It is VAR's task. They watched it and told me. It was not offside because he did not touch the ball. But it is VAR's task. Even sometimes I think they are making mistakes."
