Villa will face opponents with a new boss at the helm for the second straight match having come from behind to beat Graham Potter’s West Ham in the FA Cup on Friday night.

David Moyes will now begin his second stint in charge of the Toffees against Unai Emery’s team, after replacing the sacked Sean Dyche.

And Onana, preparing to make his first return to Goodison Park since a £50million summer move to the Midlands, thinks the change in the dugout will lift the hosts.

He said: “We’ve got to be really careful. Because I've been there myself, when Sean Dyche came in for his first game, I think it was against Arsenal at home.

“It gives you that extra motivation, extra drive. So we really have to be careful, respect them and, yeah, prepare the game."

Wednesday promises to be an emotional night personally for Onana, who still has huge affection for his former club.

The 23-year-old Belgium international has previously described “growing as a man” during his time with Everton and how he still gets goosebumps, when talking about helping the club stay up on the last day in 2023.

But while he hopes Moyes will engineer a revival for the struggling Toffees this season, he wants it to begin after Wednesday with Villa looking to halt a run of five straight Premier League away defeats.

He said: “It will be quite special, you know, because that's the place that gave me the opportunity to showcase my abilities in the Premier League.

“I was grateful for the opportunity, but yeah, looking forward to it. I enjoy playing at Goodison, I hope this time it will be better for us.

“I respect the fans but I don't want them to be too happy next week. I might allow that (the week after). I hope on Wednesday it'll be better for us.”

Villa will go into the match on a two-game winning run after coming from behind to beat the Hammers in Friday’s third round tie.

The visitors, seemingly re-energised by Potter’s arrival, led early through Lucas Paqueta but Villa turned it round in five second half minutes, Morgan Rogers getting the winner after Onana had levelled things up with his fourth goal of the season but first since September.

He said: “I'm delighted, because the last couple of weeks have been quite frustrating for me.

“I had my injury, was out for four to five weeks.  I came back for two games, and got ill. So yeah, I was out of the squad, so it was really important for me to get this one back.

“In the first half, West Ham did really well. They were really compact and making it really difficult for us to find the pass through the middle.

“But then second half, I think the gaffer made little adjustments on the side, to create an overload, and once we got going, I think we were really good.”
