Villa total a net spend of more than £260m over the past decade, taking into account players sold by the club for a profit too - putting them seventh in the study put together by Paddy Power.

The Villans have splashed the cash once again this summer, with more than £75m spent on the likes of Ollie Watkins, Bertrand Traore, Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez - with the potential for more to be spent with the transfer window still open.

Wolves aren't too far behind their nearby neighbours, having a net spend of £177m, which puts them 11th in the study, which took all 92 clubs into account.

West Brom sit 17th with a net spend of £107m, with Walsall the only club of the four in a net profit, having made £3.3m over the past decade.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester City sit top of the pile overall, having a net spend of a whopping £867, £50m more than Manchester United, who are second.

Chelsea (£410m) sit third in the study, with Arsenal (£380m), Liverpool (£335m) and Everton (£271m) all above the Midlanders.

No current Premier League side has brought in more money in than they spent, but new boys Leeds have made the smallest loss of any top-flight team (£41m).
