Aston Villa's Wesley receives treatment after an injury during the Premier League match at Turf Moor, Burnley.

The Brazilian striker was stretchered off following a challenge by Ben Mee in the second half, having scored the opener at Turf Moor.

Reports in Belgium claim that Villa's club-record signing has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, and will undergo surgery in the coming days before beginning rehabilitation.

Should that injury be confirmed by Villa, recovery could take between six and nine months, ruling the 23-year-old out for the rest of this season, and potentially the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

The news would come as a big blow for Dean Smith, who watched on as the striker put in a brilliant showing against the Clarets before being forced off.

The club are still awaiting news regarding Tom Heaton, who was also stretchered off after falling awkwardly following Burnley's only goal of the game.

The injury to Wesley further prioritises Villa's need to sign reinforcements up front. The club were on the lookout for a striker in January, but the striker's lay-off makes the need for another forward even more pressing.

Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi has been reported as a possible target for the club to fill the void up-front, following the opening of the January transfer window.
