Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings earns England call-up
Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has been named in the England squad for their upcoming games against Bulgaria and Kosovo, alongside teammate Tom Heaton.
Mings joined Villa on a permanent basis this summer for a fee of £20m from Bournemouth, having been an integral part of the squad which secured promotion via the play-offs last season.
The 26-year-old has been equally impressive to start the season at B6, leading the top flight in blocks and clearances after the first three games.
He shone under the gaze of England boss Gareth Southgate during Villa's last game, the 2-0 win over Everton - keeping a clean sheet as his side secured their first win of the campaign.
The call-up is the first recognition the defender has received on the international stage, with Mings never featuring in the England set-up in any capacity at youth level.
Heaton returns to the England fold once again, having joined Villa from Burnley this summer. The stopper has made three senior appearances for his country before now, having made his debut in May 2016.
He'll do battle with Jordan Pickford and former teammate Nick Pope for the spot between the sticks for England.
England will take on Bulgaria and Kosovo as they continue their 2020 European Championship qualifying campaign. The Three Lions sit top of their group after two games, having beaten the Czech Republic and Montenegro in their first two clashes.
