The Norwegian stopper has signed on a three-year deal at Villa Park for a fee of around £1m, and will do battle with Jed Steer, Mark Bunn and Andre Moreira for the number one jersey.

He becomes the first permanent signing under new majority owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens at B6, and the third signing of this summer.

Moreira and Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe have both signed up on-loan recently.

"I'm looking forward to playing for this big club and can't wait to get started." Nyland said.

"Everything has moved very quickly and I'm really happy to be here and call myself a Villa player.

"I also can't wait to play in front of the fans – I've heard they're quite fantastic. I'm looking forward to experiencing their support for myself.

"This club belongs in the Premier League and I'm keen to play a part in getting us back there."
