The Arsenal legend and World Cup winning forward has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Steve Bruce.

Billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens agreed a deal to take a controlling stake of Villa last week.

The club has stressed the management team, led by Bruce, would remained focused on 'strengthening the squad'.

But reports gathered momentum over Henry, who was recently part of Belgium's coaching staff during the Russia World Cup, being top of their list to take charge.

Betting firm Coral today said: "We've suspended betting on Thierry Henry being announced as the new Aston Villa manager."
