John Terry has refused to rule out a return to Villa next season.

The 37-year-old made the shock move to Villa Park last summer and has been an integral part of Steve Bruce's side, who secured their spot in the play-offs this month.

But despite his growing years, the former Chelsea and England captain admitted that his appetite for playing is still strong and that the Villans are 'equipped' for promotion from the Championship.

"I still have the appetite and the hunger for sure." He told TalkSPORT.

"First and foremost I just want to get this season finished, my aim and my target at the start of this season was to get us up. Whether that was automatic of via play-offs, that's been my target.

"One last push and hopefully we can go out on a bang and celebrate and make it an easy decision at the end."

It's thought that Terry's future depends heavily on Villa's Premier League status to make any deal for the defender financially viable, though keeping him would not be impossible if they fail to secure promotion.

Currently sitting fourth in the Championship, the club are certain of at least a fourth placed finish but rely on the likes of Cardiff and Fulham dropping points to have any shot at automatic promotion, with Wolves already confirmed of the top spot.

Terry admitted that promotion was his only aim this season, and believes that his journey through the second tier has been one to remember.

"It's been an incredible journey so far." he continued.

"There's still a few games to go until the end of the season and the play-offs obviously but it's one I've thoroughly enjoyed. I certainly made the right decision in the summer.

"It's a really tough division, it deserves a lot more quality and praise than it probably gets.

"The games do come thick and fast.I've been used to playing Champions League football, three games a week but sometimes it feels like your playing four or five games a week in this division.

"Like people say, every team beats anyone. It's a real tough league, if you're off your game slightly you get beat and get turned over, we've found that a couple of times this year but we've give it a good run.

"The main thing is we're [in the] play-offs, let's hope we can get a nice big day at Wembley and push on.

"This football club deserves to be in the Premier League, the support it's got, how big it is, everyone deserves it. It's so huge.

"The travel support is incredible, we're equipped to go up. Obviously, along the way you need a little bit of luck and hopefully we get both and it gives us a good chance."
