Agbonlahor's contract is up at the end of June and Villa have no intention of renewing it after a difficult season for the long-serving striker, ending his 17-year association with the club.

Bruce is worried the 31-year-old has been 'institutionalised' at Bodymoor Heath, but hasn't ruled out using him in the run-in because he's trained like a 'beast' in the past few weeks.

When asked if Agbonlahor was leaving this summer, Bruce said: "I think it's time. I had a conversation with him six weeks ago. I think it's time for Gabby to move on.

"The thing for Gabby now is what he's going to do next? He's been institutionalised here, he's been a wonderful servant for the club.

"Yes he's had a few down moments of course, but he's had a lot of ups.

"Look at the first 10 years of his career here, young lad playing for England, playing week in week out in the big league.

"He's been a good player for the club, that's for sure. But I do think it's maybe time for him to move on.

"And if that's the case, we wish him luck. It's a shame he's picked up two bad injuries this season.

"He still might have a part to play yet, I haven't dismissed that. I have to say the last month or so he's trained like a beast again.

"He's got his head around the fact it's time for a new challenge. And he goes with everybody's blessing here.

"He's Villa through and through if you cut him in half, and we shouldn't forget that."

Agbonlahor is destined to leave in the summer, but Terry's future is less certain.

Bruce has told his skipper he wants him to stay for another season, but has left the decision is in the former England captain's hands.

"All of us want him to stay," said Bruce. "I think that's clear. But it's John's decision.

"Once he makes it, we'll abide with it. It would be wonderful if he could take us back to the Premier League and then play a part in keeping us there. That's what I've said to him.

"Whether we're in the Premier League or Championship, it's John's call to see what he wants to do playing wise.

"That will be a conversation we'll have further down the line.

"I've said to him that if we get to the Premier League we want him to stay and be part of it, but we have to respect what John wishes. The ball will be in his court."

When Bruce was asked if Terry would be able to stay on his wages if the club were not promoted, he said: "We haven't had the conversation financially about not getting promoted, we don't want to do that just yet. Why do we want to be talking negative?

"I've had no real conversations about budgets yet, but we know it will be extremely difficult budget wise next year without the parachute payments.

"There's lots of conversations to be had with the powers that be. But at the moment we're concentrating on trying to win the next few matches."
