Jordan Amavi is moving closer toward the Villa exit door with Sevilla now firm favourites to land the wantaway left-back.

Having seen an initial offer of £5.3million rejected last week, the La Liga club have returned with an improved bid, thought to be worth up to £8million including add-ons, which may well be enough to tempt Villa to cash-in on the 23-year-old.

Amavi has made little secret of his desire to move on this summer and is not short of suitors, with Napoli and Sampdoria among several clubs to have registered an interest.

But Villa have been eager to recoup as much of the £10million they paid Nice for the full-back two years ago.

Amavi arrived with the reputation of being one of the brightest young talents in the French game and his early performances in the Premier League were encouraging.

But his progress was halted after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for France Under-21s in November 2015.

Though he returned to make 36 appearances last season, Amavi gradually fell out of favour under Steve Bruce, who signed Neil Taylor from Swansea to be first choice left-back in January. He is one of up to 10 players who could depart before the end of next month as Villa look to ease Financial Fair Play concerns and trim a bloated squad.

New signing John Terry trained with his Villa team-mates for the first time yesterday after flying out to the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal.
