Which Championship stars could head to the Midlands?

The transfer window for top flight clubs to sign EFL players closes this Friday at 5pm - giving clubs just a few more days to finalise deals.

Here are some of the names linked by the bookies with a move to the Midlands.

Said Benrahma - Aston Villa

Brentford's Said Benrahma scores

For many, Said Benrahma is a Premier League player in waiting - which makes it surprising that he still remains a Brentford player so far into the current campaign.

Making it all the way to the Championship play-off final last season, many tipped the Algerian star to be on his way the moment Fulham secured the final spot in the top flight at Wembley - with Aston Villa heavily linked.

However, with Dean Smith prioritising a move for Ollie Watkins via some drawn-out negotiations with the London club, no reported move for Benrahma has come about as of yet.

West Ham are now the favourites to sign the skilful forward, although reports suggest that move could break down.

Villa are 12/1 to sign Benrahma, with the Hammers leading the race at 1/3. Crystal Palace are another highly tipped club at 8/1.

Josh King - Aston Villa

Relegated with Bournemouth last season, Josh King is running down what's likely to be a fairly hefty contract and looks certain to leave the south coast before this week's deadline.

Having seen teammate Callum Wilson secure a move to Newcastle, the Norwegian will no doubt fancy himself in the top flight less than a year after being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are in the running with the bookmakers to move for the forward at 28/1, but it's West Ham again leading the race at 5/6.

Villa join Everton and Fulham in the running according to the bookies, with Dean Smith's side 10/1 to sign him.

He was reportedly a target earlier this summer, so could Villa move for him if the price is right?

David Brooks - West Brom

David Brooks of Bournemouth (AMA)

Another Cherries star linked away, David Brooks is a very talented player - but his fitness raises real question marks.

There's no doubting his talent, and that has seen bookmakers take bets on him heading back to the top flight.

West Brom are 33/1 outsiders, which seems fair given the lack of funds available to Slaven Bilic and Luke Dowling.

Brooks isn't likely to come cheap, so Albion fans shouldn't hold their breath when it comes to this deal happening.

Sheffield United are the favourites at 5/2, with West Ham 8/1. Manchester United are available at 10/1.

Emiliano Buendia - Aston Villa

Emi Buendia

One man who looked certain to leave Carrow Road upon relegation was Emiliano Buendia - who was one of the shining lights for the club last season.

A reported move to Spain hasn't come about for the tricky forward, and Villa are now the bookies' favourites to move for the Argentine.

At 10/1 a move doesn't look very likely, with Fulham priced at the same level as the Villans.

Arsenal and Leeds are both available at 12/1, but right now it looks very likely that Buendia will need to stick it out in the second tier until January at least.

Reports suggest that the player would like a move, but if nobody stumps up the cash he'll need to get his head down and fight for the Canaries once again.

Ismaila Sarr - Wolves/Aston Villa

Watford's Ismaila Sarr (left) and Reading's Liam Moore

Any side still after a pacey winger should be considering a move for Watford's Ismaila Sarr.

He only joined the club last summer of course, but with the Hornets splashing the cash to bring him in, a move now seems likely should a top flight club make a suitable offer.

Liverpool were heavily linked earlier this summer, but they opted for Diogo Jota instead, Manchester United were another side thought to be keen.

Crystal Palace are the favourites at 6/1 to sign the forward, although Villa are second with the bookies at 16/1.

Wolves fans might like to see him signed, but at 25/1 it doesn't look all that likely.

Karlan Grant - West Brom

Huddersfield Town's Karlan Grant

He's the man that Albion have chased endlessly this summer, but for now Karlan Grant remains a Huddersfield Town player.

Reports suggest that the striker wants the move to The Hawthorns, and a breakthrough seems to have been made over getting a deal done.

There seems to be an acceptance that the move will happen sooner or later, but don't be surprised to see this go right down to the 5pm deadline on Friday, such have been the long and complex talks involved.

Any deal looks likely to be an initial loan with a view to a permanent deal, and it seems as though the Baggies have a clear run at Grant given the lack of reported interest elsewhere.

Fingers crossed Albion can get the deal over the line before the window closes.

Jack Butland - West Brom/Aston Villa

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland

Do West Brom or Aston Villa really need another goalkeeper?

Jack Butland is being tipped to move by the bookies, but neither club look likely to invest any cash into that position.

Villa have already spent £20m on Emiliano Martinez this summer, whilst Albion have Sam Johnstone and David Button alongside Jonathan Bond at the club.

Villa are 33/1 to move for Butland, with Albion 20/1. Liverpool are the clear favourites following Adrian's poor form, the Reds are 4/6 to sign the Stoke man.

Troy Deeney - West Brom/Aston Villa

Watford's Troy Deeney celebrates

With West Brom in need of reinforcements up-front, Troy Deeney could fill a void at the club.

The striker has been heavily linked with a move to The Hawthorns, and the Baggies are light up top given the injury sustained by Hal Robson-Kanu coupled with Kenneth Zohore and Charlie Austin both being out of favour.

The Baggies are 3/1 favourites to get the striker in before Friday's deadline, with Villa 33/1 outsiders.

Deeney isn't a man many Villa fans would be desperate to see at the club, given his affiliation with Birmingham City - so a move doesn't seem high on the agenda, not to B6 anyway.

Todd Cantwell - Aston Villa

Norwich City's Todd Cantwell

Another promising talent being linked with a move from the Championship is Todd Cantwell.

The youngster shone at times in the top flight, and that will have drawn interest from plenty of clubs following the Canaries' relegation.

Leeds are 9/4 favourites to sign the forward thinking youngster, with Villa 20/1 to move for him.

Question marks would be raised over a move to Villa Park, as it seems unlikely that he would be able to hold down a role in the starting XI given Villa's business already.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move and are available at the same price as Villa to get a deal done.

Andre Gray - West Brom

Watford's Andre Gray

Another striker linked with a move to The Hawthorns, Andre Gray is thought to be one man sounded out by Albion.

Relegated with Watford, could he help Slaven Bilic's side get goals in the top flight?

Like Deeney, he would certainly provide an option up-front, although it does seem that Karlan Grant is the first choice the Croatian boss really wants.

Don't be surprised to see him leave Vicarage Road come Friday, but in the same point, it's very possible he stays put too.
