The only PDC tournament to formally invite players from the BDO again takes place for a ninth year at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, from November 12-20.

And Tipton's Hughes is in the running to secure a place and make his Grand Slam debut due to his exploits in the BDO, writes Craig Birch.

The organisation's champion, Scott Waites, is one of four who qualify automatically and is the only BDO thrower to have ever won the Grand Slam, in 2010.

World Championship runner-up Jeff Smith, World Masters winner Glen Durrant and World Trophy titlist Darryl Fitton are also in.

The remaining four places - one per eight four-man groups - for the BDO will be assigned to their highest-ranked competitors who haven't already qualified.

Hughes currently has the last spot as their world No 6 with Danny Noppert, Martin Adams and Scott Mitchell above him.

'Yozza' would be only be the second Black Country man to take part at the Grand Slam after Wolverhampton's Wayne Jones, who is attached to the PDC.

The final field for the competition will be determined on Monday October 24, after a qualifier for the remaining PDC places is held at the Barnsley Metrodome the previous day.

Tickets for the eight-day event are on sale now, by calling the Civic Box Office on 0870 320 7000 or online via www.theticketfactory.com/pdc.
