Jamie Hughes out after the group stages

Tipton's Jamie Hughes won his group but then lost at the last 128 stage at the BDO Dutch Open over the weekend.

Hughes was in the reckoning for the competition held at the Bonte Wever in Assen, but Martin Adams retained the men's crown.

The World Championship semi-finalist, playing his second tournament since reaching the last four at Lakeside, was edged out in the last leg 3-2 by Mats Giles.

The 29-year-old was placed into Group 128, with over 2,000 male throwers competing in the event this year.

Hughes, who received a bye past his first game, recorded three whitewashes in four group clashes, including a 3-0 victory over Justin Massy in the group final.

The Black Country thrower also shut out Michael Hollander and Per Hendriksen 3-0, either side of a 3-1 win over Ferry Beijleveld.
