The Wolverhampton darter travelled to Dublin in Ireland to compete in two events at the City West Hotel, which is also staging the Grand Prix,

Throwers first took to the oche on Friday for the first competition, which didn't go well for Jones as he missed the money stages with a 6-3 first round defeat to Joe Cullen.

'The Wanderer' returned to the same venue on Saturday in determined mood and proved formidable this time, winning three games on the floor.

First Jones battled past Barrie Bates in the last leg 6-5, before dropping just a leg in a 6-1 defeat to Jermaine Wattimena.

That set up a meeting with former BDO world champion Jelle Klassen, the winner of two ranking titles this year. Jones seized the initiative 6-4, before his run was ended 6-2 by Darren Webster.

The £1,500 he picked up keeps him heading in the right direction but he dropped a place to 41st on the Order of Merit, rising five places to 52nd in the Pro Tour rankings.
