Last 16 exit in Germany for Jamie Hughes

Tipton's Jamie Hughes reached the last 16 of the BDO's German Open at the weekend before bowing out to a former world champion.

'Yozza' lost 5-2 to Scott Waites at the Sporthalle Harpener Heide in Bochum after beating Stephan Gerritsen 4-1 to set up the meeting,

Waites went out 6-1 to eventual title winner Jeffrey De Graaf, who beat Martin Adams 8-7 to take the trophy, in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Hughes was back in singles action after a starring role for the England team, as they claimed the British International championship the previous weekend.

The 29-year-old won both of his games, the latter a 4-1 clincher against Wales' Steve Alker that saw his country claim the spoils on legs difference.
