But 'the Wanderer' had got past the first hurdle on Friday and Saturday, first toeing the oche for a close contest with Irishman Mickey Mansell.
They were locked at 5-5 going into the 11th and final leg where Jones managed to come out on top earning himself, at least, £250 in the process.
He again had his moments against Austrian thrower Mensur Suljovic but he fell away towards the end on that occasion, conceding defeat 6-4.

Another last leg battle ensued with Dutchman Benito van de Pas, who snuck past the Wednesfield darter 6-5 to progress to the third round.
Two-time PDC champion Adrian Lewis won Friday and Sunday's tournament, with world No 1 Michael van Gerwen prevailing on Saturday.
