Wayne Jones goes Dutch again this year in PDC
Qualifying for the PDC's Dutch Darts Masters in June proved to be the highlight of Wayne Jones' weekend at the Barnsley Metrodome.
The Wolverhampton thrower will go Dutch again this summer in a competition where he beat Phil Taylor for the first time in 2012,
That's due to his efforts in Friday's second qualifier for the European Tour events, although he missed the boat for the first tournament.
The 49-year-old from Wednesfield opened trying to make the cut for the German Darts Masters, which will be held from April 4 to 6.
Jones beat Steve Douglas 6-2 in the preliminary round but a last leg 6-5 defeat to Jamie Bain saw him lose out, needing two more wins.
He went straight into the first round of the second event as the 18th seed and defeated Mick Todd 6-2, before ousting Andy Boulton 6-5 to seal his spot.
Rugeley's Mark Hylton, Dudley's Mark Jones and Stourbridge's Nick Fullwell also competed in both competitions, but failed to get through.
For the trip to Holland, Hylton lost 6-2 to Gary Stone in the preliminary round while Jones and Fullwell bowed out at the next stage, 6-1 and 6-2 to Michael Barnard and William O'Connor respectively.
Of the three, Hylton came closest to a trip to Germany after beating Mark Lawrence in the first round, only to go down 6-3 to Darren Webster.
Fullwell saw off former World Championship finalist Mark Dudbridge 6-1 in the preliminary round, but then lost 6-2 to Joe Cullen. Jones lost 6-1 to Brett Claydon in the prelims.
Wayne Jones, in possession of a Pro Tour Card while the rest possess Challenge Tour privileges, then competed in Saturday and Sunday's Players Championship events at the same venue.
Jones pushed John Bowles close first up only to be edged out 6-5 in the deciding leg, before a 6-3 loss to reigning world champion Gary Anderson the second time around.
Two first round exits came outside of the money stages, leaving Jones 50th on the Pro Tour Order of Merit and 36th overall today.
