The two-time quarter finalist in the competition is seeing his luck go from bad to worse, with another slip up against unheralded opposition.

Jones suffered a surprise 5-2 defeat to Dutchman Joey ten Berge, despite coming to the oche fresh after sitting out the first round of action.

Fellow wulfrunian Dean Stewart was also exempt from the opening phase but didn't see the benefit, going down 5-1 to James Richardson.

Ten Berge and Stewart both came through the first round, where Stourbridge's Nick Fullwell and Dudley's Mark Jones were both eliminated.

Fullwell lost 5-2 to Lee Evans while Jones, who competed at the 2013 PDC World Championship, went one leg better in a 5-3 defeat to Jason Wilson.

Smethwick's Matthew Tedstone took on the other open qualifier from Rileys Sports Bar in Wolverhampton, Stuart White, in the preliminary round.

An exciting shoot out went the full nine legs before White held his nerve to edge through, which then only landed him a first round spot.

The 29-year-old from Banbury in Oxfordshire, who lost his Pro Tour card at the start of last year, pushed Matt Padgett but went out 5-3

They were all heading home by the time of tonight's second session having played in the afternoon at Butlins in Minehead, with the ITV4 cameras on hand.
