'The Wanderer' was ultimately halted in the last four 6-1 by Ian 'Diamond' White, who went on to beat Simon Whitlock 6-3 to claim his first ranking title.

Jones had seen off fellow West Midlander David Pallett, from Newport in Shropshire, 6-5 in the first round before beating Paul Amos 6-4 in the first money stage.

The Wednesfield darter was taken to the last leg again before seeing off Stuart Kellett 6-5, then defeating Darren Webster 6-3 to set up the meeting with White.

It was coupled with a run to the fourth round on Saturday, opening his weekend with a 6-4 victory over Daryl Gurney before putting Ian Walters out 6-4.

Jones performed well and dropped just a leg in a 6-1 success over Dutchman Vincent van der Voort but was again put out by the eventual winner, Dave Chisnall, 6-3.

His exploits at the Barnsley Metrodome over the weekend earned him £3,500, £1,000 for Saturday and £2,500 for yesterday.
