Jones lost 6-5 to Walsh in the second round at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan on Sunday, ending his day with a reverse at the hands of his nemesis.

Walsh beat him 5-4 in the group stages of the Grand Slam at Wolverhampton Civic Hall last November and they were paired again in the second qualifier.

'The Wanderer' had opened his day with a 6-4 win over Joey Palfreyman and lost in the second round of Saturday's tournament at the same venue, 6-4 to Dan Russell.

Rugeley's Mark Hylton lost in the first round of three different tournaments last weekend, the PDC's European Tour and respective UK Open qualifiers.

Hylton's hopes of being a part of the European Tour event in Dusseldorf, Germany later this month were ended by a 6-4 defeat to Joe Murnan on Friday.

'Mile High' - a former airline cabin crew manager - was back at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan on Saturday for the first of two UK Open qualifiers.

But Hylton took just a leg in a 6-1 first round defeat to Scott Rand and fell at the same stage by the same score on Sunday, to world No 6 Wes Newton.

Brierley Hill's Mark Jones will be a part of the European Tour event after winning his spot with two victories to reach the third round.

The 43-year-old defeated Josh Payne in the 10th leg to claim a 6-4 victory and then used just eight legs to see off Ian Walters 6-2.

'Little Mon' moved on to the weekend's UK Open qualifiers at the same venue on Saturday and received a bye to the second round.

But Jones came off second best to world No 12 Gary Anderson, taking just a leg in a 6-1 defeat, losing 6-3 to Jerry Hendriks at the same stage on Sunday.

However, Jones climbed a place in the world rankings as a result and stands 61st in the PDC Order of Merit today.

Stourbridge's Nick Fullwell was not favoured by the luck of the draw. First he came within a game of sealing his spot at the next European Tour event.

'The Hero' dropped just a leg in beating Richie Howson 6-1 and then beat Gaz Cousins 6-4 in the second round to step up a deciding match with Terry Temple.

But Temple, previously a quarter-finalist in a UK Open qualifier, proved too tough a nut to crack and he nabbed the European place with a 6-3 victory.

Fullwell was back on Saturday for the first of two UK Open qualifiers and progressed past the first round, 6-4 over Lee Palfreyman.

But the 43-year-old was lumped together with world No 5 Simon Whitlock and lost 6-4. Fullwell then drew world No 4 James Wade in the first round on Sunday.

But he pushed Wade to the last leg before going out at the first hurdle with a 6-5 defeat, ending his weekend of competitive darts.

Wednesbury's Matthew Dicken won one game all weekend in the respective qualifiers. The PDC Youth Tour regular received a bye to the second round at the start of play last Friday.

But the 20-year-old's hopes of making the European Tour event ended with a 6-3 defeat to Paul Amos.

In Saturday's UK Open qualifier, Dicken took Barrie Bates to the last leg, before bowing out 6-5.

His first victory in three events came in the first round of Sunday's tournament, 6-3 over Lee Moffat, but Richie Howson put him out in the next phase 6-4.

Fellow youngster Matthew Dennant, from Bloxwich, was also involved in the three events and received a bye to the second round of the European Tour qualifier.

Ian Walters put him out 6-4 but he received a bye to the second round of Saturday's UK Open qualifier, too, but then lost 6-2 to former world youth champion Arron Monk.

Dennant failed to get the first round of Sunday's UK Open qualifier, his last chance of a victory, as he was defeated 6-2 by Ken MacNeil.

Rising Belgian Kim Huybrechts won his first PDC ranking title on Saturday, beating John Part 6-2, while Michael van Gerwen whitewashed Mervyn King 6-0 in Sunday's final.
