Matt Dicken stuns PDC world youth champion
Wednesbury's Matthew Dicken caused a shock by dumping out reigning PDC world youth champion James Hubbard in the first round of the tournament.
Dicken saw that the title holder would not retain his crown in the last 64 at the Barnsley Metrodome last Friday night, taking his chances for the victory by 6-4.
It was the second year in a row that the Black Country darter had eliminated the world champion in the first round, after defeating Arron Monk in 2012.
The 20-year-old reached the last 16 that and repeated the feat this time after a second 6-4 win, defeating Dutchman Wouter Vaes to progress to Adam Hunt.
But, this time, Dicken was on the end of a 6-4 reverse and bowed out of the tournament, picking up £725 of prize money for his efforts on the night.
Michael Smith, who hit a nine-darter on the way, and Ricky Evans will contest the final at the O2 Arena in May, during the senior Premier League play-offs.
Dicken returned for the weekend's first Challenge Tour events of 2013 and reached the second round in both Saturday and Sunday's events at the same venue.
He took Lewis McGurn to the last leg on Saturday before losing 4-3, while he was whitewashed 4-0 by Martin Walker on Sunday.
