'The Wanderer' went out in the second round of yesterday's event 6-2 to the World No 11, who went out of Wolverhampton Civic Hall's Grand Slam to Jones in the quarter-finals of 2010.

Jones' 6-3 first round victory over Stuart Kellett, who reached the final of the previous weekend's UK Masters, proved to be his only win in two events at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan.

The World No 31 went out in his opening game of Saturday's tournament, after failing to see off the unfancied Ross Smith before falling to a 6-4 defeat.

Stourbridge's Nick Fullwell also set up a clash with James Wade in the PDC's next European Tour event after nabbing a place through the qualifiers.

Fullwell will play the World No 3 in the first round in Sindelfingen, Germany, on March 30 after winning Board Eight at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan.

The 43-year-old received a bye past the first round on Saturday but put himself within a game of qualification with a last leg victory over Ian Walters by 6-5.

A 6-3 win over Mick Todd landed him a trip abroad and added to his second round run in the UK Open qualifier earlier that day, after winning his first game.

Fullwell had beaten Aden Kirk 6-3 but was then defeated 6-4 by Michael Mansell. Andy Pearce beat him 6-2 in the first round of yesterday's UK Open qualifier.

Rugeley's Mark Hylton is another heading to Germany next weekend to play Joe Cullen on the European Tour event after nabbing a place through the qualifiers.

'Mile High' - a former airline cabin crew manager - saw off fellow West Midlands darter Mark Jones, from Brierley Hill, 6-2 in the first round of the qualifier.

The 46-year-old then record successive 6-1 wins, dropping just a leg against Lee Hayes and Andy Relf respectively, to win board 15.

Hylton didn't far as well in the Saturday and Sunday UK Open qualifiers, first losing 6-3 to Alex Roy.

He reached the second round of Sunday's competition, beating Dave Ladley 6-3, before losing 6-2 to eventual winner Robert Thornton.

Brierley Hill's Mark Jones will not be a part of the European Tour event after losing in the first round on Board 15, 6-2 to Rugeley's Mark 'Mile High' Hylton.

It was the second time that day that Jones had faced a fellow West Midlands darter, after beating Wednesbury's Matthew Dicken 6-4 in the UK Open qualifier.

Charl Pietersen defeated him 6-5 in the second round. In yesterday's UK Open qualifier, Jones beat James Hubbard 6-1 before losing by the same margin to Mervyn King.

Wednesbury's Matthew Dicken came close but failed to make it past the first hurdle as his gradual step up to the PDC seniors continued over the weekend.

The 20-year-old, a regular on the PDC Youth Tour, entered the qualifiers for the next European Tour event and the next televised tournament, the UK Open.

Dicken was pitched in for a battle of the Black Country darters in Saturday's first UK Open qualifier and took four legs from Brierley Hill's Mark Jones before losing 6-4.

He then took Chris Aubrey to a last leg decider in the ensuing European Tour qualifier, but a 6-5 defeat ended his day of action.

Dicken was back at the venue for yesterday's third and final tournament and this time pushed Alex Roy close when he got to the oche, but suffered another 6-5 loss.

Michael van Gerwen won his third successive UK Open qualifying tournament on Saturday, while Robert Thornton won yesterday's event.

Gary Anderson and Andy Hamilton both hit nine-dart finishes on Saturday.
