Wayne Jones whitewashed in PDC UK Masters

Wolverhampton darter Wayne Jones' weekend at Butlins was no walk in the park as he was whitewashed by Simon Whitlock in the UK Masters.

Jones met 'the Wizard' in the second round after seeing off Germany's Jyhan Artut at the Minehead resort on Friday night, steaming ahead to seal a 6-3 success.

The Wednesfield man went 5-1 up with three ton-plus checkouts, two 116 and one 160, before Artut battled back to win two legs in 11 and 12 darts respectively.

But victory was Jones' with another respectable checkout of 106, in what was only his second PDC tournament since December's World Championship.

And the World No 5 was a step too far on Saturday afternoon as Jones displayed rustiness 'on the floor' in just his fourth PDC competitive match of the year.

A lot of missed doubles also cost 'the Wanderer' with his averages, too. His average on Friday was 85.13 to Artut's 88.06, while Whitlock had 89.69 to his 84.65.

Two-time PDC world champion John Part won the competition, beating Stuart Kellett 6-4 in the final. Jones remains 31st in the PDC Order of Merit, having won £1,000.
