Playing on television for only the second time, Jones lost 3-0 to the Northern Irishman at the Alexandra Palace in London last night, live on Sky Sports.
Dolan dropped only one leg over the three sets and appeared to show no ill effects of a sickness bug that laid him low through last week.
Jones hit a 180 on the way but Dolan hit four maximums of his own and only lost the first leg of the second set, which Jones took on double eight.
Dolan battled back to secure victory by winning the next six legs and sealed the win with an impressive 120 finish to secure a place in the second round.
