Brierley Hill's Mark Jones stunned James Wade by scoring a win over the world No 3 in the latest stops of the PDC Players Championship at the weekend.

Jones took a victory over 'the Machine' in the 11th and last leg of their third round tie yesterday at the Barnsley Metrodome, scoring a shock win by 6-5.

Steve Maish ended his challenge in the fourth round after another match that went the distance, 6-5, with Jones opening with two straight wins.

The 42-year-old plasterer saw off Matt Clark by 6-1and then beat William O'Connor 6-4, also reaching the fourth round on Saturday.

Walsh saw off Tony Littleton 6-1 and Sam Hill 6-2 to progress to rising Belgian Kim Huybrechts, who was edged out 6-4 after a close contest.

Then came Simon Whitlock, who won his first PDC ranking title for two years in yesterday's event, with 'the Wizard' taking the spoils, again by 6-4.

Wolverhampton's Wayne Jones made it through to the third and fourth round as his form starts to pick up in the PDC Players Championship.

Jones bowed out in his third game of Saturday's event, going out to Justin Pipe in the 11th and last leg of a 6-5 defeat.

'The Wanderer' went one better in yesterday's tournament at the same venue but PDC world championship finalist Andy Hamilton beat him 6-3.

Saturday saw Jones open with a 6-5 win over Dutchman Gino Vos, then excelling in seeing off Chris Thompson by 6-1 to set up the Pipe match.

Yesterday brought Jones' best performance of the lot in whitewashing John Scott by 6-0 before he, again, saw off the challenge of Roland Scholten.

Scholten was put out of the last world championship by the Black Country darter and fell again, by 6-1, to set up a third round tie with Dave Chisnall.

Chisnall ran him close but it was Jones who prevailed by 6-4 although but 'the Hammer' Hamilton proved a step too far.

Stourbridge's Nick Fullwell put in his best work yesterday after going out in the first round on Saturday, losing to Steve Hine by 6-1..

But Fullwell bounced back to trounce John Bowles yesterday and then edged out Mervyn King, the two battling out to the last leg in a 6-5 result.

Fullwell's conqueror was the PDC's reigning UK Open champion, Robert Thornton, with the Scotsman edging through in another 6-5 win.

Dutchman Michael van Gerwen won Saturday's event.
