Smith smashed 10 sixes on his way to making 142 from just 122 balls as his team posted 351-4 at Cannock.

Michael Hill’s bid to start the season with three centuries in succession fell short but he still gave the captain able support by thumping 71 from 39 balls, as they shared 128 in little more than 10 overs.

That came after Hill had been dropped first ball, a moment which proved the most pivotal of the match.

Cannock, still searching for their first win of the season, slumped to 80-4 in reply before their skipper, Jamie Bye, gave the innings momentum with an impressive 92 from 88 balls.

Dan Bowker then hit 62 from 38 but seamer Charlie Walker snuffed out any chance of late drama when he removed Ryan Elliott and Daniel Wood in quick succession.

Cannock were eventually bowled out for 287, 64 runs short, Walker finishing with figures of 4-43.

Hammerwich also boast a perfect record after Hasnain Nawaz spun them to victory at Penkridge.

Wicketkeeper Andy Malkin top scored with 36 after the visitors had been put in but decent contributions from most of the top order helped them reach 223.

It was a total which ended up being more than enough after Nawaz ripped through the home side’s middle order on route to figures of 5-31.

Six wickets fell for just 33 runs as Penkridge slumped to 64-7 and were eventually bowled out for 129, to lose by 94 runs, John Jennings working well in tandem with Hasnain to finish with 4-25.

Tamworth are the other team still with a perfect record after a comfortable six wicket win at Walsall.

Mohammed Murtaza hit an unbeaten 42 to help the winless home side reach 203-8 but Tamworth chased the target down inside 38 overs, Dan Baker scoring 81 not out.

Milford Hall recorded their second win of the season after beating Wolverhampton seconds by 109 runs.

Will Davis and Clark Haddrell both scored 51, the latter off just 33 balls, to help Milford reach 247-8 from their 50 overs.

Davis then completed an excellent all-round performance by ripping through the Wolverhampton top order to put his team firmly in control. He finished with figures of 4-18 and while Oliver Brown (37) and Louis Walker (36) helped the home side stage a recovery from 31-5, the target always looked beyond them as they were bowled out for 138.

Captain Dan Green starred with both bat and ball as Beacon inflicted the first defeat of the season on defending champions Fordhouses.

Green top scored with 63 to help his team reach 210-8 from 50 overs and then took three wickets to disrupt the chase. Josh Chesworth also finished with figures of 3-30 as Fordhouses fell 44 runs short.

Lichfield got their first win of the season thanks to a fine team bowling performance against Pelsall.

Isaac Rowley and George Turner took three wickets each, while Nick Richards picked up two as Pelsall were bowled out for 161.

Opener Asif Rajah then hit 65 to break the back of the case as Lichfield got home with five wickets and more than seven overs to spare.
