BCB fighters back in TV action
A group of fighters from Black Country Boxing Promotions are taking centre stage when the sport makes a triumphant return to the TV screens following the coronavirus pandemic.
Four BCB fighters, Jason Welborn from Rowley Regis, Rachel Ball from Walsall – alongside Kane Baker and Adam Harper, from Birmingham and Bath respectively – will feature as Eddie Hearn and Matchroom host ‘Fight Camp’.
The four-week summer of boxing with show four separate evenings of fights based at Matchroom HQ in Brentwood, Essex.
The first three weeks is shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US before the final week is shown live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The unique outdoor setting acts as an opportunity for BCB’s fighters to prove their worth in front of the world as they feature across Fight Camp 2 and 3 on August 7 and 14.
The two Black Country born boxers, Welborn and Ball, feature on Fight Camp 3 on August 14 with the pair topping the bill.
Rowley Regis’ Welborn is headlining against Felix Cash for the Commonwealth Middleweight title.
The former British Champion, who challenged for the world title two fights ago, is aiming to get back in the world picture with a win over Cash.
Walsall’s Ball features just ahead of Welborn and will give Watford’s super-bantamweight Shannon Courtenay her toughest test to date.
Their fellow BCB fighters Harper and Baker feature in the two opening fights for Fight Camp 2 on August 7.
Harper, who lifted the English super-welterweight strap in his last fight and is a former Midlands Area champion, is making his return to the ring after two years off in a super-welterweight clash against Liverpool’s Anthony Fowler.
At Lightweight, former Midlands Area champion Baker is taking on Oldham prospect Aqib Fiaz who has an undefeated 5-0 record.
Baker was due to challenge for the English title before lockdown and still has his eyes set on national honours.
BCB’s head of boxing, Errol Johnson, said: “We are really grateful to Eddie Hearn and his Matchroom Team for their help and support.
“To have four of our boxers in huge fights live on Sky is a massive opportunity for them, and our BCB stable.
“We’ve been saying to our fighters throughout lockdown ‘stay fit, stay ready’.
“Thankfully they have and look at the opportunities that have now presented themselves.
“We’ll be going there to cause a few upsets and to show that Black Country boxing is on the rise.”
Meanwhile, Sam Eggington is headlining the opening the first Fight Camp show on August 1.
The Stourbridge fighter is putting his IBF international super-welterweight title on the line against Ted Cheeseman.
The 26-year-old, who has a record of 28 wins to six losses, is on a four-fight winning streak dating back to last summer.
He won his title in September last year when he stopped Italian Orlando Fiordigiglio.
