Lions Boxing Club are ready to roar
Four of Lions Boxing Club’s finest are gearing up for another shot at national glory.
William Wilson, aged 14, Osama Mohamed, 16, Matthew Ford, 16, and Ben Collins, 16, head to Stoke on February 23 to contest the Midlands stage of the Junior ABAs.
And Lions coach Kev Dillon is hoping the quartet will benefit from a series of sparring sessions with rivals clubs from across the Midlands.
“They have all won Midland titles before and Osama won the national junior cadet title last year,” said Dillon. “They have all been working hard in the gym and we have also had a number of sparring sessions with other local clubs.
“Brooklands, Priory, Old Hill and Merridale have all sent lads across and we have also had a session with the Impact club from Stoke.
“There was a time when clubs used to keep their secrets to themselves, but there are more and more sparring sessions between clubs now.
“It’s great for development because they are coming up against boxers with different styles. It’s good experience and hopefully they will benefit from it.”
