The six-time world champion across four weight divisions delved into tales from his career, which spanned almost three decades, at Bar Sport in Cannock.

The packed-out night, which included a dinner as well as a sporting memorabilia auction, crossed a range of topics from ‘Junior’s’ numerous walks of life, including his work in music and acting. He finally called time on a 29-year career in February with victory over Scott Sigmon in his native Florida.

“You do miss that spark, yeah,” said the 49-year-old. “You miss the spark of fighting another person but that’s about it.

“I didn’t really think it was time. I could have gone on.”

Jones spoke of how the boxing scene in Britain has developed in recent years and caught his eye.

“It’s growing big time in the UK,” Jones added. “The UK is one of the better places to be right now because of the support. They’ve got a big champion in Anthony Joshua. Congratulations to him.

“There are some really good British champions and British fans are the best fans in the world.”

The Q&A was hosted by Telford’s World, Commonwealth and Olympic champion Richie Woodhall, who Jones Jnr defeated in the 1988 Olympics semi-final in Seoul.

alongside broadcaster Steve Bunce.
