Boxer Luke Paddock will have the whole of the Black Country behind him – including his beloved Walsall FC – when he competes for a version of a world title.

The Bloxwich fighter will challenge the undefeated Myron Mills for the IBF Youth Lightweight Title at Walsall Town Hall tomorrow.

Paddock had been due to fight Adam Hague for the strap before the Derbyshire boxer pulled out for personal reasons.

Paddock though insists the late challenge won’t hamper his chances of claiming the prestigious belt.

“To get this shot in my home town is a dream come true,” the 25-year-old said. “It’s massive for me to have that support.

“I’ve had a late change of opponent. That’s frustrating. But I’ve trained incredibly hard for this.

“He’s a good boxer. You don’t fight for world titles for no reason.

“But this about me. I have to be the best I can be. Physically I couldn’t be in better shape, I’ve had to change my mindset slightly to suit a different opponent.

“But the chance to box for a massive title like this doesn’t come along every day and I’m going to seize the opportunity with both hands.

“It’s going feel amazing walking out to all that support.

“But I have to block it out and do what I’m required to do.

“It’s all about getting the job done and bringing home that belt.”
