Multiple reports north of the border say the 24-year-old is set to agree a deal with the Scottish Premier League club.

McEntee is one of 13 Saddlers players due to be out of contract this summer and is available on a free transfer.

Hearts’ Edinburgh rivals, Hibernian, are also thought to have shown an interest in the Irishman, who played for Greenock Morton before moving to Bescot three years ago.

McEntee, who can play in both defence and midfield, made 37 appearances this season, coming off the bench in Monday’s League Two play-off final defeat to Wimbledon following an injury sustained by Harry Williams.

Walsall are expected to confirm their released and retained list on Friday with a significant shake-up of the squad possible.

Only seven players are currently contracted for next season, while a further seven loan players are due to return to their parent clubs.

Centre-back Williams, who is being assessed for the injury he sustained at Wembley, and full-back Liam Gordon are among those due to be out of contract.
