Found himself overrun in the early stages as United took a grip on the midfield. One of Villa’s better players across the piece but that is not saying much.

Had Villa’s first effort on goal of the afternoon but the fact it came past the hour mark rather summed things up. Taken off soon after.

Sacrificed when Martinez was dismissed but he had struggled to get into the match before then anyway.

Involved in the game’s biggest talking point when he thought he had scored only to be denied by the officials. But not a great all-round display.

Looked out of sorts from the start and was not the only one. His touch, so sure in many of Villa’s recent matches, seemed to have deserted him.
