Staffs endure mixed fortunes in T20 opener
Staffordshire had mixed fortunes in their opening NCCA T20 doubleheader as they won one and lost one against Northumberland.
In the first game of the day, Staffs skipper James Kettleborough won the toss and elected to bat at Allendale Cricket Club and saw his side compile 133 before being bowled out in the last over. Callum Hawkins (29) and Callum Lesse (29) were the top scorers, while Callum Fletcher took 3-21 for Northumberland.
The rain then swooped in and reduced the chase to a five over slog, and the hosts made the required 42 to win by a comfortable 10-wicket margin.
The second game was also impacted by the weather, with the clash being reduced to a 16-over game.
Northumberland stuttered to 115-9 from their 16 overs as Rory Hayden and Matthew Morris both took three wickets each for Staffs.
Hawkins again made a good start this time making 38 from 24 balls, before captain Kettleborough finished the game off with 33 not out from 24 balls to give his side an easy six-wicket victory with seven balls still remaining.
It means both sides come away from the day with two points each from their first two matches.
