Robin Olsen has paid tribute to team-mates and supporters as he prepares to leave Villa this summer.

The Sweden international goalkeeper will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June and has been linked with a return to his homeland and Malmo.

Olsen initially joined Villa on loan from Roma in January, 2022, before making a permanent £3million move the following summer.

He has made just 21 total appearances for the club, including six as a substitute, having played the role of back-up to No.1 Emi Martinez.

But the 35-year-old has been a popular member of the dressing room and his contribution was recognised with a special recognition prize at Villa’s end of season awards on Wednesday night.

Olsen later wrote on social media: “It has been a great honour to be part of Aston Villa. I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent such a historic club and to work alongside top-class teammates, coaches and staff.

“I want to thank everyone at the club for their support during my time here, and thank you to the fans for their passion and loyalty.

“I leave with great memories and wish Aston Villa continued success in the future.”

Olsen’s most recent Villa appearance came in March’s 1-0 win at Brentford, when he kept just his second clean sheet for the club.
