Storm suffers a hat-trick of DNFs at Donington Park
Storm Stacey suffered heartbreak after heartbreak at Donington Park Circuit, with a collision and subsequent mechanical failures meaning he failed to finish any of the weekend’s races.
Eccleshall’s British Superbike Championship racer started strong, placing 17th after Saturday’s practice with a time of one minute and 28.286 seconds, however, his race was cut short after being taken out in an early collision at Coppice Corner.
After getting his practice lap times down from 1:29.063 at the start of Friday to the 1:28 which got him the 17th on the grid, Stacey started strong with a clean start and held his position through the opening lap.
Following the collision his Bridgnorth-based team, Bathams Racing, worked into the night to get the BMW race-ready for Sunday’s sprint, and eventually succeeded as Stacey started the race in 23rd after his DNF the previous day.
Despite climbing the field into 19th by the end of lap two, and 18th by lap six, mechanical failures forced his retirement for the second time this weekend.
Sunday afternoon’s feature race also saw a similar story, as despite climbing the grid after starting at the back, issues with the bike saw him walk away from Donington without a finish.
Stacey and the Bathams team next travel to Snetterton for round three on June 20 and 21. The track holds special significance to the side, as Stacey won his first ever BSB race there in 2024.
