Cannock Cricket Club batsmen Andrew Le Feaver and Jamie Youll are celebrating after setting a new club and league record with their stunning opening stand.

The duo racked up an incredible 403 runs together for the club’s second XI on Saturday for the opening wicket in their drubbing of Staffordshire rivals Whittington – after being put into bat by the opposition.

Le Feaver crashed an amazing  243 from just 142 balls, including 31 fours and 11 sixes before he was bowled in the final over of Cannock’s innings, at their ground, in Littleworth Road.

He was backed up by fellow opener Youll, who hit 119 not out from 128 balls, including 14 fours.

That made it a record partnership for the club as well as setting a new record partnership across all divisions in the South Staffordshire County League – at least since new records began being recorded electronically in 2008.

Cannock eventually ended the innings on 405 for one – and won the game by a mammoth 327 runs after bowling out Whittington for 78 in 21.2 overs.

The result also made it five wins from their first five games for the second XI, who play in division three of the South Staffordshire County League, and they currently sit top.

The record stand beat the previous highest league partnership – which had been scored against Cannock’s third XI by an Elford partnership of 379 in 2022 by Will Herrrmann and Paul Jones – by 24 runs.
