The Villa winger, who signed for the club from Everton last summer, was immediately sent out on loan to Albion.
He was set to be a marquee signing for Carlos Corberan at the time, and was due to play a key role for the Baggies.
However, due to the form of both Tom Fellows and Karlan Grant, along with the permanent return of flyer Mikey Johnston, Dobbin found his time at the Baggies limited.
Reduced to mainly substitute appearances and at times playing out of position up front, Dobbin was recalled by Villa in January having just under 400 minutes during the first half of the campaign.
Dobbin then went back out on loan to fellow Championship club Norwich City - hitting form for the Canaries.
But again he saw his move cut short, this time due to an injury.
However, his days in the Championship and with Norwich may not be numbered, as reports have claimed that Villa are Norwich are in talks over Dobbin's potential return to Carrow Road.
